The
Ogun State Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force has bagged an
award for the Most Outstanding Crime Bursting Police Command in West
Africa.
The award was given by the Security Watch Africa at its
11th Lectures and Awards ceremony held at Al Ghurair Hotel and Event
Centre, Dubai, United Arab Emirates ,from November 25 to 27.At the
opening lecture, papers were presented by scholars on the need to tackle
the insurgency ravaging several parts of Africa.
The event was
attended by security experts and officials from Africa including a
two-time Chief of Defence Staff of Ghana, Joseph Nunoo-Mensa; a former
Ghanaian president of the Economic Community of West Africa States,
James Gbeho;
and the Nigeria Inspector General of Police represented by
the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command,
Lagos, Umar Manko. The Sokoto State Governor was represented by his
Commissioner for Information, Danladi Bakko.
Apart from the award
for the Ogun Police Command, other’s honoured with different awards
include the command’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi; Mr. Manko; the
officer in charge Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ogun State, Mohammed
Tijani; and the Commissioners of Police in Kano, Sokoto and Katsina.
In
his acceptance speech, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna
Okoye, appreciated the organisers and dedicated the awards to officers
of the Ogun Command, both slain and serving.
The Chief Executive
Officer of Security Watch Africa, Patrick Agbamu, in his remark at the
end of the three-day ceremony, appreciated all participants for their
belief in Security Watch Africa.
